Thanks to Jake Trawick, a middle school student from Zachary, Louisiana, the Conservancy’s Brown/Crutcher/Wallace Nature Preserve has a new bridge. Ken Brooks, the Conservancy’s Preserve Monitor in the area, played an integral role in assisting with the project during Jake’s spring break.
The bridge, which is 16’ long, used mostly salvaged, pressure-treated materials from a recently renovated deck project. It crosses a stream bed located along part of the Crutcher loop hiking trail. The stream bed is steep and while usually dry, becomes very slippery and thus dangerous when wet, snowy or icy.
The project served as the first of several upgrades scheduled to take place at the Brown/Crutcher/Wallace nature preserves during 2014. Improvements include building another bridge and adding a new kiosk and sign-in station in the parking lot.
Thanks to Jake and Ken for their hard work!
